In celebration the Boys' Brigade's 125th Anniversary in 2008, the 56th with the 51st Bonnyrigg, 1st Loanhead and 5th Livingston Companies undertook an international project which reached outward. This outreach was called Project Stedfast and its aim was to raise funds to help the Boys' and Girls' Brigades of Kerarapon Parish Church in Olloolua, Ngong in Kenya, to establish a school. Just one year and two months since the inception of Project Stedfast, the St Andrew's School opened its doors to the children in January 2008. The School is going from strength to strength and at its official opening in February 2009 had three teachers and over 50 pupils.
In October 2008, a group from the 56th visited Kenya and the School. During the visit, it we announced that the Company would continue to support St Andrew's School during its formative years. This commitment to the School and the children of Olloolua will be principally through the sponsorship of a teacher during the next five years. In recognition of our working together with the School and Kerarapon Parish Church, Project Harambee was born. "Harambee" literally means "all pull together" in Swahilli (one of the official languages in Kenya) and it demonstrate the 56th working together with our Kenyan friends for the children of Olloolua.
